Abstract: NY 912699. The discovery, at Chesters, of an altar dedicated to the Discipline of the Emperor Hadrian provides the earliest epigraphic evidence for the goddess. As dedications to Disciplina were usually placed in the headquarters building there is a strong presumption that the unit mentioned on the inscription, ala Augusta ob virtutem appellata, was the original garrison of Chesters. It seems probable that this unit should not be equated with the ala Gallorum Proculeiana, as has hitherto been supposed. Authors
