Abstract: | [NZ 2563] An inscription found during excavations at the Roman fort of Pons Aelius is one of a series set up in AD 213 and closely paralleled by a now lost stone from Netherby (RIB 976). It shows that Newcastle's early 3rd century unit was a cohort of Cugerni, though the Notitia gives the later garrison as Cornovii. A plan is also provided of R buildings excavated by 1979 west of the Keep. R N B | ||
