Abstract: Description of a rare survival of heather-thatched building, of two storeys with byre, kitchen/living room, two-cell upper chamber, brick chimneystack, and attached stable. The roof truss is described and vegetation/moss remains analysed; artefacts including a pewter spoon and a clog had been poked into the roofing. A brief inventory of Northumberland-Co Durham-N Yorks heather-thatched buildings is provided and the thatching technique is discussed: this example was rethatched for the Landmark Trust.
