Abstract: An account of the gatehouse made during work to restore the building. A description of each elevation is followed by details of the interior and the structural history. An `Appendix: a small excavation' (76--7) provides information on features uncovered by removal of a twentieth century entrance hall; these included the footings of the western part of the curtain wall and a possible part of the north wall of the cottage.
