Abstract: Largely historical. Discusses the meaning of the place-name Maelmin, which was mentioned as the site of a royal residence by Bede, and located using aerial photography to the east of the village of Milfield, Northumberland. Suggests that Maelmin can be understood as meaning `decayed (river-) bank, marshy edge'.
