Abstract: |
Small-scale recording and excavation was undertaken of part of the surviving Late Roman defences of Venta Icenorum. Construction methods and the line and shape of the parapet and walkway were revealed. A break in the wall may mark the position of a minor gateway to the town, with the identification of a masonry footing suggesting the existence of a small bastion. A report on `The 1988 excavation' is given by David Pritchard (328--31). |
