Abstract: The 2004–2008 and 2015–16 investigations at Wilbees Farm recorded the eastern margins of an extensive Roman roadside settlement and established the course of the Roman road, together with a series of ditched rectilinear plots and limited evidence of post-built roadside structures. Activity was dated from the first to the fourth centuries AD, with abundant imported wares suggesting a flourishing local market centre in the early part of this period. Little confirmed evidence of domestic settlement or industrial activity was recorded by either stage of investigation. A discernible decline in activity in later years may reflect a decline in the local iron industry at this time. As a significant point within the regional Roman road network, the Wilbees Farm settlement may be compared with roadside settlements at Westhawk Farm, Ashford, Barcombe Mills, near Lewes and Alfoldean, West Sussex.
