Abstract: |
Studies the phenomenon of coin hoarding across Europe during the Roman period. A corpus of over 1,600 hoards (covering the period from 27 BC to the early fifth century AD) is presented in the appendices. Traditional models for the explanation of hoarding are found to be inadequate for the majority of hoards that have been discovered within the Empire, and an alternative model is proposed and tested. |
