ST 442650. Small-scale excavation in 1959 and 1968 of the interior of the hillfort established that the site was re-occupied between 5th-7th centuries AD. Two adjacent timber centuries AD. Two adjacent timber structures, one rectangular, the other circular in plan, were discovered, with a quantity of imported Mediterranean pottery, late- and pre-Roman coarse wares and other contemporary objects. Pre-Roman Iron Age material, including a hoard of sling stones, and even earlier evidence, was also recovered. Au. Specialist reports: geology, glass, bronzes and animal bones.
