Chapters of the book are headed: Structure and biological properties of bone; planning and organisation of bone studies; bone identification and the establishment of reference collections; techniques for the study of site collections; age determination; the use of measurements; the determination of sex; bone pathology; the interpretation of bone evidence; animal remains as indicators of past environments. An account is included of the Saxon farm in Whitehall, London, and it is stressed that bone studies should be allowed for when planning an excavation so that collectlon and recording may proceed in the manner preferred by the specialist concerned. |
