Abstract: Draft proposals for an integrated structure for archaeology in Britain, prepared by a joint working party of RESCUE and CBA, envisage the establishment of a National Archaeological service operating through regional offices, staffed by professional archaeologists, and cooperating closely with existing bodies concerned with archaeology at national and local authority level. The draft is also published in Archaeology in Britain 1973-4 (Counc Brit Archaeol Rep 24), pp 81-98, together with the texts of Dept of the Environment statements of 20 Sept 1973 and 23 May 1974.
