Abstract: Illustrates, with some hundreds of drawings, the craftsman's work from 1st to 7th centuries AD, and discusses the development of styles, the incidence of deducible workshop activity, and the use and combination of motifs. Mirrors, weaponry, ornaments, and hanging bowl escutcheons are treated, and special attention is paid to the place of the Irish material within these islands.
