Abstract: Observations were made of excavated trenches within a graveyard. Beneath the turf, the sides of the trenches revealed a reddish clay loam with stones. This may have been the upper infill of intercutting graves, and the product of a long period of use of the ground for burials. In those trenches available for inspection, no traces of the underlying geological strata were revealed. [Au(abr)]
