Abstract: An evaluation was carried out at a site which lay within the medieval town of Witham. Excavations in the vicinity had recorded evidence of Iron Age and Roman activity, and the earthworks of an Iron Age hillfort may have been re-used for the construction of a burgh, built in the area in 913 AD. During the evaluation, no archaeological features or artefacts were observed. [AIP]
