Abstract: Ten trial trenches were excavated. Trench 1 revealed a late 19th century masonry garden wall and possible mid-18th century cut garden features. A very large irregular cut feature, filled with alluvial clay deposits and overlain by mid-1th century construction debris was identified in trench 2. The cut feature had one clearly defined edge to the north, and was interpreted as a pond feature or clay extraction pit of early post-medieval date. Trench 3 produced four separate 18th, 19th, and early 20th century masonry footings, a well and a plinth. Two late medieval parallel ditches, truncated by 18th/20th-century masonry, were found cut into the natural London Clay, also apparent in trench 3. Trench 5 exposed the primary construction phase of the mid-18th century mansion complex. Post World War II demolition had consisted of the building up of this area to create a hard internal floor for the warehouses. [Au(abr)]
