Abstract: |
The excavation revealed features and finds ranging from the Neolithic to Medieval periods. A probable Neolithic polished axe was found in a Bronze Age pit. To the south-west of the site Early Bronze Age pits and postholes were identified, one of which contained a sherd of Beaker comb-decorated pottery. Small clusters of features, such as pits and waterholes, were scattered across the whole site with associated finds of large amounts of Bronze Age bucket urn, flint flakes, cores and scrapers. Finds dating to the Late Bronze Age/Iron Age, consisting of pits, postholes and waterholes were found with associated pottery, a crouched inhumation burial with an animal burial nearby and two cremations with Iron Age pottery. Most of the pottery came from trackway ditches/field systems, primarily dating to the Romano-British period, a socketed spearhead, a blade and a coin were also found. A scatter of Saxon features were located in the south and west of the site as well as a medieval boundary and an undated ditch. [AIP] |
