Abstract: A watching brief was maintained during redevelopment at the north-east corner of the site of the Preceptory of the Knights Hospitallers (SAM Humberside 12608). Three episodes of excavation were identified on the southern (inner) edge of the moat and and internal bank on the north side of the enclosure. Examination of deposits within the enclosure identified a buried land surface at circa 6.9m OD and allowed a clearer sequence of the development of the platform to be developed. Evidence of raising of the ground level of the platform was thought to indicate a major refurbishment during the 17th century. [AIP]
