Abstract: |
Following initial evaluation, further evaluation work was undertaken on a site proposed for a borrow-pit. The earlier evaluation had revealed evidence of a Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age enclosure and pit alignment. Four trenches were excavated revealing further pits in the pit alignment and two other features one of which contained a sherd of possible Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age pottery, were recorded. Some modern features revealed were thought to be associated with gypsum mining in the area. The pit alignment as shown to terminate at a ditch at its western end. The eastern end of the pit alignment was found to end within the proposed borrow-pit area, atlhough no evidence was found of a ditch or for the pits changing alignment. [Au(adp)] |
