Abstract: |
<summary>A desk-based archaeological assessment of land falling within a 1km-wide corridor along the proposed route of the by-pass was undertaken, as part of an environmental assessment. This identified areas of Holocene-age alluvium beneath which archaeological sites and features of some significance could be concealed. The possibility that peats and organic-rich sediments had been preserved within a series of associated palaeochannels was also highlighted; these could give considerable insight into past environments and changes of land-use during prehistoric and historic times. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
