Abstract: |
<summary>A single "L"-shaped trench was excavated on a site on the south side of Champney Road (the medieval Fishmarketmoorgate) to evaluate one of five proposed possible locations for new magistrates courts in Beverley. 12th century activity was represented by a pit or pits at the north end of the site, and two timber structures to the south. Episodes of land-raising in the early and late 13th century were identified, and chalk paths and a light wattle structure were constructed following the earliest phase of these episodes. Extensive pit-digging occurred from the later 14th to the later 15th/16th century. During the Post-Medieval period, the site appeared to have been used for mainly horticultural activities until the construction of the frontage buildings in the 19th century. {italon}AIP{italoff} |
