Abstract: An area at Proctor's Yard, in the heart of medieval Bicester, was excavated in advance of the construction of new housing. Archaeological features excavated fell mainly within the late Saxon, early medieval and post-medieval periods. Residual pottery indicated occupation from the 11th century. One ditch may have marked the east boundary of the territory of the late Saxon Minster church, and was backfilled not long before the foundation of the adjacent Austin priory in the later 12th century. The site seemed to have been abandoned from the end of the 13th to the 18th centuries. [Au]
