Abstract: |
An air photo assessment was carried out for the site, which reflected the Prehistoric (mainly Iron Age) and Romano-British periods, this was backed up by earlier excavations, at Field Land and Dale Lane. Large curvilinear enclosures in AP complex 2 may have been Neolithic or Bronze Age. A north to south aligned trackway and field boundaries and three sides of rectilinear enclosure with internal hut circle were identified. The sinuous, east to west aligned trackway in AP complex 27, may have met the north to south aligned trackway at Se 4815 115`, with the air photo and excavation indicating a junction at this point. Beyond the areas, which formed the focus for recent excavations, the predominant form of feature identified by the assessment was a number of parallel ditches. A possible hut circle lay to the immediate south of the enclosure. The rectilinear enclosure in AP complex 7 was defined by broad ditches and had rounded corners with details of internal divisions and pits visible. The remains of medieval or post-medieval ploughing were recorded in some of the complexes. [Au(adp)] |
