Abstract: A watching brief was commissioned during the repair and renewal of flagstones in the floor of the nave and south aisle of the parish church of Holy Cross. In spite of the evident antiquity of the church and the present building, there were no archaeological features revealed during this exercise. Evidence for the collapse of some of the flagstone included the packing of the support for stones with boiler ash and clinker and the burrowing of small animals under the floor. [Au(abr)]
