Abstract: A watching brief was carried out on trenches for an extension to the hotel. A bank and ditch was found with a hearth on top of the bank with a 1st century pottery sherd associated with it. An irregular paved surface was found, not structural in nature, which had 2nd-4th century pottery sherds among the stones. The bank and ditch was possibly related to military activity in the 1st century. [Au(abr)]
