Abstract: |
Further evaluation was undertaken in advance of mineral extraction. Following topsoil stripping, 949 test pits were dug to define the extent of a Palaeolithic flint scatter. This scatter was shown to be relatively discrete and close to the main cluster found during the evaluation trenching. A quantity of later prehistoric flintwork, including a flake made from chert, came from the stripped surface and test pits, together with a quantity of prehistoric to medieval pottery. Two charcoal-rich pits, similar to those located during the first stage evaluation and thought to have been of post-medieval date, were also identified. [Au(adp)] |
