Abstract:
<summary>Documentary, geophysical, earthwork and structural surveys were undertaken at the Paull Holme Tower and in its immediate environs. The surveys established that the tower, comprising a ruined brick-built structure, represented the remains of a manor house which had replaced a formerly moated medieval complex, the moated enclosure of which lay to the south of the tower. The moated enclosure was in turn surrounded by settlement earthworks of the deserted medieval village and areas of ridge and furrow of the former open fields. Geophysical and earthwork surveys determined the former layout and extent of the towered manorial complex (which may have had a second southern tower), whilst architectural survey established that the surviving Paull Holme Tower had been built in the late 15th to early 16th century and was structurally independent of the rest of the house. During the 19th century, all but the tower was demolished, and in 1871 the structure was repaired and converted into a gazebo or lookout.
