Abstract: |
A report on what is considered to be the largest quantity of window glass from any house of the Gilbertine monastic order, recovered during excavations of the priory at Fishergate. The relationship between the material cultural assemblage and the social context of its use, re-use, changes in its form and deposition is explored. Art-historical, archaeological and literary evidence are employed, in conjunction with scientific analysis and experimental conservation work. Includes contributions on: |
