Abstract
Coney Street, Aldwark and Clementhorpe, minor sites, and Roman roads
1 - 112
Evidence of Roman extra-mural settlement has been examined in three major excavations and a long series of minor excavations and watching briefs. In Coney Street a Roman warehouse had been sealed off because of heavy infestation by grain-beetles (see 79/6354). A road was laid in 3rd century replanning. In High Ousegate walls of a monumental building were seen, while outside the fortress in Aldwark were roads and a 4th century building with coloured mosaic floor; no continuity with the med church was evident. In Clementhorpe a series of domestic buildings included a villa or merchant's house. Some details of the road network were recovered. With contributions by J. Hinchliffe, Olwen Beazley, Stephen Coll, Patrick Ottaway and Martin Redmond.
