Report on a programme of evaluation, excavation and watching brief work at Canterbury Police Station, Old Dover Road, over the course of several years from 1997 to 2002. The article is a summary of the findings of the various stages of archaeological works. Following an outline of the archaeological and historical background, the results of the investigations are reported. Although there was virtually no evidence for pre-Roman occupation, considerable Roman activity was recorded including extensive Early Roman quarrying, a trackway, and a large quantity of pottery and other Roman finds in residual contexts. Anglo-Saxon activity was evident from three pits and a corpus of pottery and other finds. A number of cut features from the medieval period were recorded, especially the period from 1066--1200, as well as an assemblage of iron objects, many of which were identified as fittings for shutters, windows, gates etc. The presence of a nearby pottery kiln was indicated by large quantities of early medieval Canterbury sandy ware, including fresh sherds, unique forms and wasters. Slag and hammerscale was recovered, probably indicative of refuse disposal rather than actual metalworking. Several of the deposits indicate that the area was used for the disposal of domestic, as well as industrial, refuse.

Report on the three Iron Age, 131 Roman and eleven post-Roman coins recovered during investigations at the Roman villa complex at Abbey Farm, Minster-in-Thanet, between 1996 and 2004. Account of a Roman cremation cemetery, initially discovered by workmen in the grounds of Walmer Lodge, some 650m north of Walmer Castle, in 1901. Further burials were discovered during building work in 1962 but never published.
