Abstract: |
This study is based on a University College London Ph D thesis (1990). The aims of the study are stated to be the detailed recording of archaeological evidence for the Neolithic of the Channel Islands and the development of a model of Socio-Cultural change in the Channel Islands during the Neolithic. The aims and theoretical approach are set out in chapter one, while chapter two covers the environmental background. The Early Neolithic, Middle Neolithic, Late Neolithic and Chalcolithic, and the Early Bronze Age are examined in chapters three to six. Chapter seven presents conclusions on the social dimensions of the Channel Islands in the Neolithic. Supporting evidence is presented in six appendices. Appendix one (119--28) describes `Flint assemblages from the Channel Islands', and appendix two (129--34) is `Stone axes of the Channel Islands: petrology and typology'. `Early Neolithic pottery from the Channel Islands' is covered in appendix three (135--44), and `Middle Neolithic pottery from the Channel Islands' in appendix four (145--58). Appendix five (159--73) deals with `Late Neolithic and Chalcolithic pottery from the Channel Islands', and appendix six (174--84) is an `Inventory of sites'. |
