Abstract: |
The large number (175) of spearheads here catalogued testifies to the importance of the area in the Bronze Age, and to that of the spear as weapon (in contrast to the preceding and following periods). Over 50% of the total definitely came from the rivers Thames and Kennet, and another 20-30% from their banks, especially below Marlow; the area must have had either cult or settlement attractions. Any chronology must be tentative since much inventiveness on the part of the smiths is evident. |
