Abstract: |
A collection of nearly 100 pointed handaxes made over 50 years ago from a brick pit in North Oxford is now fully illustrated and discussed. Not yet datable, though deposited during an interglacial period, the axes include eight 'classic Wolvercote Channel-style' axes; these could all have been made by one worker in a day. Function is unknown and these are not true 'Micoquian bifaces' though they would not be out of place in a European Final Acheulian tradition. Late Ipswichian/Early Devensian? |
