Abstract: |
Description and discussion of the forms, fabrics, distribution, and history of the industry. The Upchurch wares run from beginning 1st century AD, peak at AD 70-130, and become more commercial (with narrower range and greater volume) in 130-200, ceasing in 3rd century. The Thameside (Kent) industry started effectively at the Roman conquest, introducing a form of Durotrigan BB1 at AD 110; though shipments to the north were short-lived, local production continued, with beakers starting in early 3rd, until about 250. |
