Archaeological space is continuous and should be thought of in terms of 'concentrations' rather than 'sites'; distributions can be misinterpreted if extrapolation from large to small scales is made too rapidly. Base maps at medium scale are urgently needed.

Gives two algorithms for the improvement of picture quality and for geometric correction to give pseudo-vertical imagery; they are suitable for standard minicomputers with reasonable processing times and storage.

About 250 specimens of glass, principally from York Minster windows and ranging in date from 12th to 15th centuries, were subjected to quantitative X-ray fluorescence analysis and the results correlated to the weathering characteristics of the glass. Multivariate analysis revealed that several groups of glasses can be identified chemically, and that certain constitutent oxides determine the manner in which the glass decays. Au(abr)

Describes chemical analysis by XRF and NAA of the two wares. This clearly distinguished between the two production areas (central Gaul and the Rhineland) for 'Rhenish' wares, and comparison with terra sigillata from known sources permitted refinements to statements about 'Rhenish' provenances.
