Abstract: |
In response to an archaeological condition on the planning permission for the construction of an underground car park at York House Place, the Heritage Network was commissioned by the developer to carry out an archaeological evaluation of the site. Two trial trenches were opened across the proposed development area. Natural sand and gravel was overlain in one trench by a possible garden path of gravel. Elsewhere the natural deposits were cut into by a series of possible 18 century gravel pits; that were overlain by dumped 19 century layers. A few small recent cut features or finds were found, and the post-medieval deposits were of low significance. |
