Abstract: An archaeological evaluation by Geoff Potter of Compass Archaeology revealed no significant archaeological remains. This area has potential for a range of archaeological features and finds, notably those relating to recorded post-medieval pottery manufacturing industries. The earliest features encountered were two large pits, c. 1600-1750 and possibly dug for gravel extraction. Most evidence related to the residential development of the site in the later 18th and early 19th centuries. There was no evidence for the tin-glaze pottery manufacture that is recorded on the adjacent Norfolk House site. The evaluation generally produced small assemblages of domestic pottery, plus a few sherds probably deriving from the nearby 18th century sugar refinery. The houses formerly on the southern part of the site contained cellars, and these had removed all deposits to the level of natural River Terrace gravels.
