Abstract: |
A few dispersed pits dated to the late Bronze Age/early Iron Age. A roundhouse ring ditch marks the origin of a late Iron Age/early Roman settlement. The main period of activity between the 2nd to 4th centuries AD. By the early 2nd century AD a system of ditched enclosures had been created which underwent a complex sequence of sub-division and modification. By the mid-3rd century a walled rectilinear enclosure enclosed the western area. The excavated part contained a series of parallel fence lines, domestic activity, including a stone-lined well, but the principal houses seem to have lain beyond the excavated area. A small Anglo-Saxon cemetery of 10 inhumation burials, occupied part of a former Roman enclosure |
