Abstract: |
In May 2006 North Pennines Archaeology undertook a watching brief on land located within the Hadrian''s Wall World Heritage Site, between Hadrian''s Wall to the norths and the Vallum to the south. The site lay within the Roman Military Zone which includes a Roman Road, the location of which was thought to lie directly to the south of the development area. As a result, the watching brief was undertaken to observe all groundworks associated with the development on the land associated with a two-storey extension to the house, within the footprint of the building. No archaeological remains were encountered, and the archaeological intervention showed that any surviving features would be located below the depth of the groundworks (0.9m). |
