Abstract:
While the resistance survey failed to identify any clear plan of an early house on the site, the technique did identify walls and foundations belonging to the building. Unfortunately the picture is confused due to modern landscaping, rubble spreads and robber trenches. In addition, the presence of sand filled pits resulted in anomalies similar in form to the responses associated with walls, rubble spreads etc. A suspected tower on the north-western corner of the defences proved on excavation to simply be a spread of stones with no structural element to them. While GPR transects identified the moat ditch to the west of the house, there was no suggestion that a similar feature existed to the east of the church.
