Abstract: |
The construction of a new building is proposed at Twinwoods Business Park, Twinwoods Road, Clapham, Bedfordshire. Albion Archaeology was commissioned by CgMs to undertake a programme of trial trenching, the results of which are presented in this report. No archaeological remains are recorded in the Bedfordshire Historic Environment Record within the development area. However, there are records of Iron Age, Roman, medieval and modern activity in the vicinity of the site. No significant archaeological remains were identified by the trial trenching. Despite the presence of modern features in two of the trenches, the area evaluated had not been significantly truncated by modern activity. The absence of evidence for activity earlier than the post-medieval period, therefore, suggests a genuine lack of significant archaeological remains within the evaluated area. It is reasonable to extrapolate that the development area as a whole has negligible archaeological potential. |
