Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken at Mill Farm, Kemnay, Aberdeenshire. The work was carried out to satisfy a condition of planning consent in advance of quarrying work. The site lies in an area where there is potential of archaeological remains. During the stripping a total of eleven features were recorded. All the features were isolated and no structures were observed. The natural subsoil showed extensive signs of deep ploughing and a number of plough scars were noted during stripping. Of the eleven features recorded, four were of archaeological interest and six were likely to be of natural origin. The archaeologically interesting features consisted of two small pits and two small post- or stakeholes, of unknown date and function. A large modern refuse pit containing modern pottery and glass was also recorded. |
