Abstract: |
Level 2 building recording at Sowerby Lodge Farm. The oldest and largest of 6 recorded farm buildings dated from the 18th century. The later barns probably dated from the early 19th century although re-used cruck blades indicate the possibility of older buildings on the site. The first reference to Sowerby Lodge was in 1509 and the farmhouse which will be recorded separately is dated to 1676. From the late 19th century alterations to the barns show an increased emphasis on dairy farming. |
