Abstract: |
A level 2 building recording at Low Fell Gate Farm. Six limestone farm buildings were recorded, the oldest and largest was a good example of a variant bank barn that probably dated from the latter half of the 18th century. The sustained and gradual growth of the farm illustrated a balance of activities reflected by stables, pigsties, shippons and a threshing barn. Dairy appeared to take over in the early 20th century with the construction of a modern shippon. The earliest direct reference to the farm is from Yates' 1786 map. |
