Abstract: |
Trial trenching was undertaken on the proposed site of two new houses. Unfortunately the trenches had to be dug with a toothed bucket due to the amount of rubble etc on site. The site was very disturbed, making trenching difficult. Trenches had to be re-routed to avoid obstacles. Trench 1 contained various services, wall footings, hardcore/concrete, but cleaning of the subsoil revealed medieval pottery and bone. Similarly, though trench 2 was full of building debris, services, etc subsoil cleaning revealed more medieval pottery. No archaeological remains were recorded in trench 3. The results indicate that there is a potential for in-situ archaeological remains further back in the site. |
