Abstract: |
A programme of archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Archaeology South-East on land at Former Seaview Avenue Garage, Seaview Avenue, Peacehaven, East Sussex in advance of a proposed development. The work was undertaken between the 4th and 5th April 2012 and was commissioned by Clifford Dann LLP on behalf of Farringdon Property Developments Ltd. Four evaluation trenches, two measuring 10 metres in length and two measuring 15 metres in length, were excavated. The natural horizon varied in depth from 37.66m OD in the west of the site and 38.54m OD in the east of the site. Despite known archaeological activity in the vicinity, no evidence of archaeological remains was recorded and no artefacts were recovered in the evaluation. Evidence of modern truncation relating to the former garage was identified across much of the site. However, the natural horizon was observed, at least in part, in all four trenches suggesting that other areas of the site may have some low potential for archaeological remains. |
