Abstract: |
Archaeological monitoring was carried out on behalf of Scottish Water Shared Services on the extension to Balmichael Water Treatment Works, Arran, North Ayrshire. These archaeological works were designed to mitigate the impact from the site investigation works on the archaeological remains within their development area to the agreement of the West of Scotland Archaeology Service. The first stage of works encompassed monitoring geotechnical test pits within the extension area before the second stage that saw the monitoring of the outfall pipe running from the extension area, falling to the south. No significant archaeological material was observed during the course of the archaeological works and the only anthropic material observed was that relating to twentieth century construction and use of the site. |
