Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by PCA on the inital phase of enabling ground works prior to the construction of a new museum to house the Mary Rose, Henry VIII's ill-fated flagship. The investigation focused on Dry Dock No. 3, a Scheduled Ancient Monument and Grade 1 listed building, where the Mary Rose is housed. The investigation revealed previously unknown information on the construction of Dry Dock No. 3, including part of the buttress system that supports the dock walls as well as large stone built dockside structures that pre-date, are contemporary with, and post-date the dock. |
