Abstract:		 An archaeological watching brief undertaken during groundworks associated with the construction of a new food store at Barnes Hill, California, Birmingham, uncovered structural remains of the Lapal Tunnel Brick Company brickworks. The brickworks operated between 1876 and 1884 and for a short period prior to the First World War. The remains included walls, floors, tramway cuttings, a bridge abutment and part of a Scotch kiln.
