Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by Northamptonshire Archaeology between November 2009 and January 2010 during groundworks and the excavation of validation trial pits undertaken prior to the construction of a new mixed use development on land at Wharf Road, Biddulph, Staffordshire. No significant archaeological remains were encountered during the course of the watching brief. The putative mine shaft thought to exist within the development area was revealed to be a circular brick-lined pond. Previous development within the application area appeared to have impacted greatly upon any potential archaeological remains. A truncated natural substrate was observed across the site at varying depths. |
