Abstract: |
Wessex Archaeology was commissionedt o assess the archaeological resource that may be affected by proposed new infrastructure works at the junction of Cattle Market Road and Feeder Road, Bristol. There are several surviving historic structures within the Site relating to the 19th century engineering works and industrial buildings. Totterdown Lock formed the junction between the Avon, Floating Harbour and Feeder Canal and lies at the Site's centre. Elements of the lock, including retaining walls, steps and road bridge, survive within the Site. Several other fragmentary historic structures exist in or on the edge of the Site, including the frontage of a 19th century oil mill and perimeter walling relating to hospitals, the cattle market and an industrial complex. |
